The short version

WordCue has no accounts and no server of its own. Your words, your likes and everything you mark as known stay on your iPhone. The app sends anonymous usage statistics so its maker can see which parts are used — nothing in them identifies you, and you can switch them off in Settings.

What stays on your device

The name you typed during onboarding, your level, interests, pace and reminder times, the words you have been shown, the ones you liked, and the ones you marked as known. None of it is uploaded. Deleting the app deletes all of it.

What is sent

Anonymous product events:

• the app being opened, and how — icon, widget or notification;
• the onboarding answers: where you heard about the app, your age band, your level, goals, interests, pace and reminder hours, and whether you typed a name — never the name itself;
• a word being served, with its level and topic;
• likes, and words marked as known;
• practice rounds and their scores;
• settings changed, and which screens are opened.

Events carry your device model, iOS version, app version, language, time zone and a random identifier the app generates for itself.

What is never sent

Your name. Your IP address — it is discarded rather than stored, so there is no location of any kind, coarse or precise. No advertising identifier, no Apple ID, no contacts, no microphone or camera data. WordCue does not track you across other apps or websites, and shares nothing with data brokers or advertisers.

Who processes it

PostHog Inc., a product-analytics provider, on servers in the United States, acting only on instructions from WordCue. They are not permitted to use the data for their own purposes.

Turning it off

Settings → Privacy → Anonymous analytics. Once off, the app stops sending events immediately and stays that way until you turn it back on.
